I get frustrated with Windows sometimes, and few things frustrate me more than the complications of installing and configuring new hardware. In the days before Plug and Play (PnP), installing hardware was complicated, but at least you learned about the guts of how Windows managed resources like IRQs, I/O ports, and drivers. It gave you a feeling of control to know how to install and configure legacy hardware, and a feeling of accomplishment when you finally got everything to work.
